CDM Killer

September 17, 2019

Kaila Magill- On the morning of September 17, 2019 a woman by the name of Alice Smith left her home in Corona Del Mar, California around 6:45am with nothing but a water bottle to go on her daily walk along the beach. The beach was awfully quieter than normal, no surfers, walkers, or beach goers were in the water or on the sand that morning. Alice went about her normal routine and took advantage of the peace and quiet, until she noticed something in the water. Assuming it was a seal or an abandoned surfboard, she went closer to investigate. Expecting to see a surfer looking for their board or a seal playing in the waves; Alice nearly dropped to the sand when she realized a body had just washed up right in front of her. She frantically looked around for the nearest person but the beach was quiet. Alice ran to the parking lot of the beach where there were only two seemingly abandoned cars parked. She got to the guard shack, where there was no sheriff on duty and used the phone to notify the authorities.

Brooke Deal- Eight hours earlier, a woman by the name of  Michelle McDonald left her campsite in Crystal cove around 11 pm. She was staying at the beach with her family, her husband and 3 children. Michelle and her husband have been married for 26 years but had been having a difficult time the last four years, since Michelle was caught cheating with their neighbor. Michelle and her husband had gotten into a very bad fight the night Michelle left on her walk, she left to get some air and some peace and quiet. She assumed her husband, John, was going to stay at the campsite and cool off after the fight, same as she was, but she quickly noticed that night as she was walking on the sand there was a man following her. She assumed it was her husband, following her down to the beach to work things out so they could enjoy their vacation. As she began to walk toward the man on the beach, she soon realized it was not her husband, Michelle got very scared, she was at an unfamiliar beach alone at 11 p.m. As she turned around and started to speed up, she noticed the man pick up speed and began to run toward her. She was running as fast as she could, but it wasn’t fast enough to outrun the hooded man. The next thing she knew, she was struck in the back of the head with a bat and hit the sand.

Maryrose Tran- The man grabbed Michelle by the legs and started to drag her towards his hideout which is unknown to the public but only him. As the husband starts to cool down he goes out to check on Michelle since it is unlikely of her to be gone this long even if it was a huge fight. As he walks around the area, the time has increased with no sign of Michelle anywhere, he starts to panic and runs around the area frantically. Midway running he trips over a rock and as he gets up he sees a trail of blood all over the sand. Fear starts to creep up on him as he continues to follow the blood-stained sand he sees two shadowy figures up ahead. Certain that one of the figures is his wife he dashes towards them and immediately is horrified with the sight he came upon, his wife unconscious covered in blood with torn up clothes barley to cover her and a man with a smile plastered on his face slowly coming towards the husband. The mystery man all of a sudden strikes the husband, leaving him unconscious and as the husband awakened he finds himself tied up to a chair surrounded by the noise of his wife’s screams as the unknown man continues to torture his wife and once he’s finished with her, he knows that he will be next.

Mia Talley- Alice remained in the guardshack after calling the cops. It was now 7:30am, she looked around at the parking lot wondering how long the only two cars had been there. She replayed the situation over and over again in her head, trying to remember everything she saw, before and after. She started to wonder why there was no one in the guard shack and started to get even more nervous. A few minutes later Alice could hear the police sirens in the distance and felt a bit safer. All of a sudden two men appeared walking to the cars in the parking lot from the beach, they didn’t even notice Alice through the tinted windows of the guard shack. They opened the backs of the cars and moved some things around then towel-changed into sweats and sweatshirts. Alice wanted to believe that they were surfers that had just gotten out of the water but she never saw any boards, they were not wet, and they weren’t wearing wetsuits. The men then quickly started their cars and started to leave but they were stopped at the exit by a cop putting up caution tape.

Kaila Magill- Alice ran to the first cop to pull into the parking lot, he told her they were going to conduct a search and rescue for five missing people in the area but they wanted to interview her first. She frantically told the cop to talk to the two people leaving the parking lot and he assured her that no one would be leaving without being interrogated first. She watched as paramedics and cops ran down to the beach to accommodate the body Alice had seen. A few minutes later a cop pulled Alice aside to hear her story, she told him everything that had happened and that she felt very suspicious about the two cars that were leaving when the cops arrived. The officer told her that the two men had just gotten back from surfing and were clueless as to what was going on. They were very compliant and even left their name and numbers, in case they needed to be contacted. Alice started to doubt her assumptions of the two men. The officer then told Alice that there was no body found on the beach but there were small amounts of blood found in the parking lot. He pointed to where the two vans were parked. Alice’s stomach dropped, she knew she was right and told the officer to contact the men as soon as possible. She watched as a detective called the men’s numbers, they never went through. They then tracked their license plate numbers and names, which both ceased to exist.
